2009 Women's Health Resource List

A Companion to the 2009 Women's Health Profile.

This resource list responds to the need for programs and services as described in the 2009 New Mexico Women’s Health Profile. It compiles resources available to New Mexico Women in five broad categories: Health, Safety, Education, Economic Security and Community Involvement. Services include access to health care, teen health, mental health, pregnancy and birth, older women, mortality, sexual assault and domestic violence, incarceration, educational status, economic security, political participation, and leadership. In addition, the services are categorized according to the 5-point model which was adopted by the Council and based on the Community Centers of Excellence model which integrates five components of primary care delivery:

Direct Services (medical and behavioral health) that consider the “whole woman” in managing care, and is sex- and gender-specific and inclusive;

Outreach & Education regarding health promotion, disease prevention and disease management;

Leadership Development & Community Capacity Building, including skills that empower women to take control of health and live healthy lives;

Professional Education & Workforce Development for providers and clinical staff, especially regarding cultural competency; and,

Research relating to the complex issues in sex- and gender-specific health care with attention to diversity, as well as health promotion, disease management, and treatment outcomes.
